Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), a Centrally Sponsored Scheme would be providing grant help to the state Governments/ Union Territory Administrations (UTs) in a dedicated Escrow account for the purpose of direct benefit transfer to the beneficiaries.
From 01.01.2017, the Maternity Benefit Programme would be start in all the districts of the India. According the provision of the National Food Security Act, 2013. The programme is named as ‘Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana’ (PMMVY).
The Objective of PMMVY is Providing partial compensation for the wage loss in terms of cash incentives so that the woman can take sufficient rest before and after delivery of the first living child. The cash incentive would help to improved health seeking behaviour into the Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM).
Under-nutrition affects the woman very badly in India, every second woman is suffering from anemia. An undernourished mother gives birth to low birth weight baby. Women get poor nutrition in her utero that is that the reason the baby takes birth with Malnutrition.
Under PMMVY, a cash encouragement of Rs. 5000/- will be directly dispatch on bank account of pregnant woman and Lactating Mothers. The eligible beneficiaries would receive the remaining cash incentives as per approved norms towards maternity benefit under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) after institutional delivery so that on an average, a woman will get Rs.6000/-
PMMVY will be implemented using the stage of Anganwadi Services scheme of Umbrella ICDS under Ministry of Women and Child Development in related to state/ UTs implementing scheme through Women and Child Development Department/ Social Welfare Department and through Health system in respect of States/ UTs where scheme will be implemented by Health & Family Welfare Department.
